Page(s): 08-19
Abstract

This study evaluates peoples’ perceptions on pine tree growing and food security by analyzing both questionnaires and group discussion to collect data. From analysis of respondents, the percentage of targeted respondents that actually responded to the questionnaire was 98%. From the preliminary analysis conducted in this study, majority of respondents have the following attributes,1 ) diploma level education, 2) are males, 3) aged between 36-45 years, and 4) Had a negative attitude towards pine tree growing. Many aspects have been perceived as the major causes of food insecurity in the Kigezi Highland of Uganda. Perceptions of on-farm pine tree plantations and food security were measured by the rate they attribute to farmers’ livelihoods. The attributes measured as variables, that is, population pressure, income disparity, biodiversity loss and ecological imbalance, tree-crop competition, soil and land degradation, gender consideration, tree diseases, labour requirements and food security conflicts. The study applied a mixed research method, where descriptive cross-sectional research design was adopted. Both the qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed. Primary and secondary data sources were used to acquire data to accomplish the study where 384 participants took part in the study. Data was analysed using SPSS where both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to determine the results. The findings of the study indicate that pine tree plantation have got a negative effect on food security in the Kigezi Highlands. Despite having carbon markets and other co-benefits from pine tree adoption, the findings indicate that minority are benefiting from this intervention. The study was to examine the Hypothesis H01 Farmers’ perceptions of pine tree plantations do not have significant effect on food security in Kigezi Highlands Region. Hence, the null hypothesis of no significant effect of pine tree plantations on food security in Kigezi Highlands Region Uganda is rejected. The evidence of negative effect of farmers’ perceptions of pine tree plantations on food security in Kigezi Highlands Region is also in accord with some extant literature. The study recommends the adoption on farm agroforestry where farmers will have co-benefit for food security and improved livelihood, and diversification of enterprises to improve livelihood of communities in the Kigezi Highlands..

Abstract

This paper presents a simulation study of a smart antenna (SA) system based on direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is based on the MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm for finding the Position Location (PL) of the desired user. The beamformer steer the main beam towards the desired user and nullify all other interferer, through adaptive beamforming using Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm. This simulation results revealed the sharper peaks in the MUSIC angular spectrum and deep nulls in the LMS beam pattern. Also, this paper deals with DOA estimation and adaptive beamforming for the dynamic case based on SA. Eigen decomposing fined the PL of the desired user using MUSIC algorithm and steer the beam toward this user using compute the weight vectors like Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm. Also this paper illustrates the results for the LMS error on the basis of number of iteration / sample.

Author(s): Ermias Gebeyehu
Page(s): 46-90
Abstract

A cross-sectional study aimed at determining the prevalence and estimating the financial losses due to cystic echinococcosis (hydatidosis) in cattle slaughtered at Debre Berhan municipal abattoir was conducted from November, 2014 to April, 2015. Out of 384 examined animals, 110 (28.6%) were harboring visible hydatid cysts. Significantly higher infection was detected in cattle’s with poor (48.40%) than animals with medium (24.10%) and good body condition (20.30%). The prevalence of the parasite in male and female was 29.83 and 29.8% respectively. However, there was no significant variation was between two sexes. The prevalence was not statistically different between local (30.10%) and cross (19.20%) breeds. Regarding organ distribution, infections of the lung, liver, kidney and heart were 52.50, 38.10, 5.00, and 4.40%, respectively. Of the total 160 hydatid cysts counted, 64 (40.00%) were fertile, 80 (50.00%) sterile, and 16 (10.00%) were calcified. Of the 64 fertile cysts subjected for viability test, 24 (37.50%) were viable while 40 (62.50%) were nonviable. Moreover, assessment of annual economic loss due to bovine hydatidosis at Debre Berhan municipal abattoir from offal condemnation and carcass weight loss was about 3,730,328 ETB (186,516.40 USD). As the infection was detected in this study, there seems to be an existing favorable situation for hydatidosis, and hence, it remains one of the most important diseases warranting serious attention for prevention and control actions in the district. Hence, establishment of well-equipped standardized abattoirs, creation of public awareness, and control of stray dogs have paramount importance..

Abstract

Concrete is one of the most important materials employed in public works and building construction projects. It means that we are utilizing a tremendous amount of concrete and we will continue to use it. On the other hand, sustainable development has become more and more important. The human race is steadily transitioning its socio economic system in an effort to solve its resource, energy and environmental problems. It is obvious that the concrete industry also have to introduce environmental axis in to technologies.
In this project, recycled coarse aggregate was used as coarse aggregate and the fine aggregate composed of 85% of recycled fine aggregate and 15% of natural fine aggregate. Cement was replaced with flyash at 0%,10%,20%,30%& 40%. Concrete was prepared with the above ingredients and also with the air entraining agent. A comparative study was carried out on the properties of plain concrete and air entrained concrete and optimum percentage replacement of cement with flyash was also carried out. Nominal mix mentioned in the IS 456-2000 for M20 grade concrete was used for casting the specimens. Tests were carried out to find the compressive strength, strength and modulus of elasticity. Results of recycled aggregate concrete were compared with the air entrained recycled aggregate concrete. The optimum percentage replacement of cement with flyash is also reported.

Abstract

By its nature, engineering is a quantitative discipline. Engineers use numbers to help them design and assess the product to be built. Until recently, software engineers had little quantitative guidance in their work - but that's changing. Technical metrics help software engineers gain insight into the design and construction of the products they build. Software project effort estimation is frequently seen as complex and expensive for individual software engineers. The Metric-set selection has a vital role in software cost estimation studies; its importance has been ignored especially in neural network.

Employee Engagement: Weapon in the Hands of HR Practitioners for Challenges of Talent War about to Begin
Author(s): Mr. Kishore Chandra Das, Dr. Sudip Kumar Ghose
Page(s): 124-131
Abstract

Ever since 1998, when a group of McKinsey consultants coined the expression ‘war for talent’ and posited that a fundamental belief in the importance of talent is needed to achieve organizational excellence (Michaels, Handfield-Jones, & Axelrod, 2001) the practitioners have always in search of weapons to win that for themselves. It is even more relevant now as preparedness of business and industry for the unprecedented challenges to be faced in the HR-front by virtue of talent war about to be more fierce in future. All most all the industriesare witnessing a very uncertain path over the last decade in the face of global recession and fluctuating market conditions. With 4G era round the corner and technology dominating the business in never before manner, it is evident that the talent pool which is an asset in the hands of the HR-mangers yesterday is not only considered obsolete to day but also overtaking the so called succession strategy. The human resources are now being evaluated from various prospective; also new ways and means are being figured out to keep them fighting fit in this era where you should create a talent faster than you lose a talent. Hence continuous search for tools to manage the talent or human resources in macro sense is a night mare for HR practitioners. Current study will be very much instrumental in addressing this issue because we have chosen a very strong tool called employee engagement which has fascinated many HR professionals for its exhaustive germane to the cardinal driving forces in people at work. Managing talent with a fare degree of accuracy will be the key to achieve the talent war across the business and industry.

Abstract

Shwebo and Kanbalu Districts which lie in the northern most part of the Dry Zone of Myanmar had once widespread distribution of wild animals. As local economies and population expand, throughout the region, forests, grasslands are being degraded or lost. Terrestrial mammals and bird population are under pressure from overexploitation. The objectives of this paper are to provide a basis for the development of wildlife conservation and protected areas; to highlight sites that are threatened or in adequately protected, so that urgent remedial measures can be taken. Arc GIS is used to show the spatial distribution of wild life habitats in conjunction with data. Conservation analysis is made by using Wikramanayake’s Weighted Criteria Method. The results show that wild habitats in study areas have contracted greatly and some of these habitats will require expanded-protected areas with strong law enforcement, while others will require additional strategies based on modifying human land uses.

Performance Analysis of Outriggers System in Triple Towers Coupled with Cantilever Meeting at Point
Author(s): Harish kumar P, Abhinandhan K S, Doraiswamy
Page(s): 161-165
Abstract

Tall building development has been rapidly increasing worldwide introducing new challenges. As the height of the building increases, the stiffness of the building reduces. The Outrigger and Belt trussed system is the one of the lateral load resisting systems that can provide significant drift control for tall buildings. Thus, to improve the performance of the building under seismic loading, this system can prove to be very effective. The outrigger and belt truss system is commonly used as one of the structural system to effectively control the excessive drift due to lateral load, so that, during small or medium lateral load due to either wind or earthquake load, the risk of structural and non-structural damage can be minimized. For high-rise buildings, particularly in seismic active zone or wind load dominant, this system can be chosen as an appropriate structure. The objective of this paper is to study, the performance of outrigger structural system in triple towers coupled with cantilever meeting at center and to compare the vertical and horizontal displacement of nodes at extreme ends with the rigid jointed structure of same plan and elevation. The structure is analyzed and designed using staad.pro v8i software.an (G+9) Irregular structure is assumed for analysis and the material used for the purpose of analysis is steel.

Abstract

Data mining is a procedure of extraction of information and knowledge that are hided in data, unknown by people and potentially useful from a large quantity of data with multiple characteristics. The data-mining model based on genetic neural network has been widely applied to the procedure of data mining. This paper presents a method that combines the learning algorithm of Back Propagation (BP) neural network with genetic algorithm to train BP network and optimize the weight values of the network. The system uses a single hidden layer. Input for the system is training data set of police office data. Each attribute values are all numeric-valued. At the beginning, each training data set is trained using Neural Network architecture with sigmoid function. Then, by using GA, neural network weights are chosen as parents for selection, crossover and mutation. The weights are optimized, using genetic algorithm. The fitness is calculated and the selection is performed with method of roulette wheel selection. This system can be solved cases of police office rapidly and make decisions efficiently using the historical data.

Abstract

Globally, daylight is an important issue in the modern architecture. Since, it affects the functional arrangement of spaces, occupant comfort, structure, and energy use in the buildings. Locally, in Jordan, there is a lack of studies that deal with architectural and interior design efforts to address the indoor daylight quality in houses. Also, Atrium houses are not widely spread in Jordan. The study aimed to; measure the satisfaction levels of atrium roof residents with daylight at Jordan in terms of interior design suitability, thermal comfort, and interior visual comfort. Methodologies: The research methodologies are quantitative and cross-sectional ones. The study conducted in Amman, Jordan. A sample of (355) respondents filled the self-administration questionnaire properly. The questionnaire had been developed based on previous studies, and its validity and reliability were done. Results: The study concluded that, Jordanians were satisfied regarding the daylight in their atrium roofs in terms of interior design suitability, thermal comfort, and interior visual comfort. The research findings suggest that Atrium Day Lighting in Jordanian residential building is crucial to be analysed and it is also significantly dependent on the identified factors; the interior design, thermal comfort as well as the vision comfort. All of these factors help the related residential sites constructors to have an insight about the factors that need to be focused upon while designing.

Abstract

The research aims to study minimizing ordecreasing sulfate ion concentration inpolluted water using adsorption method bytealeaves. The samples were collected from four areas on the Tigris River side in Baghdad city that are, Bab Al-Muddam, Al-Doora, Al-Kademiyah and Al-Adamiyah. At these areas and on the river sides, there are hospitals, Electric power plants, factories, restaurants and residential houses. The result showed that before adsorption method at standard temperature, sulfate ion concentration was high. This referred that these institutes might be pour theirswastewater directly to the river, which leads to pollute the water of the river. Therefore, the wastewaterneeded to be treated before pouring to the river. After adsorption, sulfate ion concentration is decreased gradually depending on twofactors, which are temperature and contact time. The results presented that adsorption process by using tealeaves as an adsorption material hadsignificant impact in decreasing sulfate ion concentration in polluted water. On the other hand, the temperature as a factor was more effective than contact time in minimizing sulfate ion concentration inpolluted water until reach the desired value (200-400mg/l) as standard Iraqi’s requirements..

Silenced Violence Versus Instagram Likes: Are They The Same?

Abstract

It is not often that a simple caption change under a photo on Instagram leads to death threats. And yet, it is exactly what happened when an Instagrammer Essena O’Neill changed the captions on her photos. O’Neill, 18, is an Australian Instagram model, who leveraged a “contrived” sense of beauty and her great genes, to create an image of a perfect carefree coquettish blonde with an illuminating smile, graceful posture, tiny waist, – seemingly enjoying life – all while making profits from the advertisement endorsements. It is interesting that whenO’Neill changed alluring captions on her photos to more accurate descriptions of what was actually happening at the time the photo was taken, her followers had an extremely negative reaction to the point of sending her death threats. One week later, she deleted most of her photos, accounts, and decided to quit social media altogether..

Effect of Crosslinker Addition on the Composite Characteristics of Bacterial Cellulose-Aloe vera Extract
Author(s): Nanda Cimpia, Ananda Putra
Page(s): 267-272
Abstract

Bacterial cellulose can be applied in various fields such as the biomedical field, separation membranes, artificial blood vessels, and substrates for tissue engineered cartilage. Bacterial cellulose still has low mechanical properties, so that a composite of bacterial cellulose with aloe vera extract (BC-AvE) is formed to get a new better material. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of crosslinkers (wheat flour, tapioca flour, and glutinous rice flour) on the mechanical, physical, and structural properties of BC-AvE composites. Bacterial cellulose is produced from a mixture of coconut water, sugar and urea. Then it ferments with acetobacter xylinum for 14 days. The bacterial cellulose formed in the composite with an aloe vera extract and it’s called bacterial cellulose-aloe vera extract (BC-AvE). BC-AvE composites will be characterized by testing tensile strenght, water content, and structural analysis with FTIR. Addition of crosslinkers can reduce the percentage of water content of BC-AvE. The best tensile strength test results were BC-AvE which added tapioca flour solution with a value of 68,13 MPa. Futhermore, the FTIR spectrum shows that the clusters of functions in cellulose are just shifting.

Abstract

Automation of descriptive answer evaluation process would be helpful for various universities and academic institute to efficiently handle the assessment of exam answer sheets of students. An automatic answer checker application that checks and remarks written answer similar to human being. The purpose of this system is to automate the old fashioned manual system and introduce automatic evaluation of marks in much faster and accurate way. The system requires you to store original answer (i.e. sample answer paper) for the system to perform semantic analysis. By representing the descriptive answer in the form of paragraph and comparing it with standard answer are the key steps in our approach. The similarity obtained from semantic analysis is then normalized to obtain the final resultant score of answer..

Page(s): 392-396
Abstract

Plastics are the most widely used polymer in life and cause global plastic pollution in the marine environment. Therefore research was conducted with the aim of making biodegradable plastics by utilizing bacterial cellulose produced by Acetobacter xylinum coconut water media with the addition of plasticizers namely 3.5% glycerol in the fermentation medium and soaking using additives namely chitosan with a concentration of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 10% on bacterial cellulose glycerol that has been formed. Bacterial cellulose fermentation was carried out to form a thickness of 0.5-1 cm and soaking bacterial cellulose glycerol in chitosan for 3 days. Plastic cellulose glycerol bacterial chitosan produced was characterized using water content test, tensile strength test, and crystallinity test (X-Ray). The test results of water content on chitosan bacterial cellulose glycerol plastic, the higher the concentration of chitosan, the smaller the percentage value of water content. The mechanical test results showed an increase in the value of tensile strength with the higher concentration of chitosan used. Analysis of the degree of crystallinity shows that immersion using chitosan can reduce crystalline percentage.

Page(s): 397-429
Abstract

Cross-sectional study was conducted in Debre Birhan veterinary clinic from November 2016 to March 2016 with the objective of determining the prevalence and associated risk factors of infection in calves. Faecal samples were collected from a total of 384 calves less than 24 month of age and examined for the oocysts of coccidian. Detailed information of the origin, age, sex, breed, management system, hygienic status and faecal consistency were obtained. Centrifugal faecal floatation technique using salt solution was used to detect coccidian oocyst. From the total calves included 118 calves were demonstrated for the presence of coccidian infection. Coccidian oocyst was detected in calves from 1 to 2 year of age but greater prevalence was observed in age categories less than 6 month of age. Statistically significant association (p<0.05) between prevalence of coccidiosis and origin, age, faecal consistency, hygienic status and management system was observed in the study. However, there was no statistically significant association (p>0.05) with sex and breed. Based on this study coccidianinfection has a great significance for the livestock producer so it needs a serious control and preventive programs.

Abstract

How has climate change affected the dynamics of conflicts in Africa? Existing exploration demonstrates that climate change can build the danger of conflicts or essentially adjust the elements of existing conflicts. This article addresses the issue in regard to the primary efficient audit of both quantitative and qualitative methods. We assess the degree the literature gives coherent clarifications that distinguish important systems, actors, and results. The article discusses contribution of climate change to violence in African citing different examples and specific situations where climatic factors impacts lead to conflict. The effect of environmental change is progressively explained as one of the most genuine security threats in future and a far more prominent risk to the world's stability than terrorism. For a few, current clashes for instance in Darfur may be partly because of climatical change. It is contended that environmental change incorporates the danger of reshaping the landscape, worsening sustenance, water and vitality shortages and adding to destabilization, unregulated populace developments and tension. Regardless of whether natural changes actuate expanded challenge between users of scarce resources. Drawing on recent instances on conflicts between pastoralist communities in eastern Africa, the move from expanded challenge over resources to open conflict relies on existing adapting limits of social orders and the strategies, establishments and procedures that characterize access to resources.

Abstract

India is famous for its cultural legacy. The Indian state of West Bengal also has a rich traditional and artistic heritage.Malda has also its intangible cultural legacy with artistic styles and techniques. The blocks mainly Gajole, Bamongola and Habibpur of Malda district represent the backward classes. Basically the tribal backward classes specially the Mahali community earn their livelihood by making handicrafts from canes and bambooes. Lack of interest for upgradation of their situations, unawareness, lack of co-operation are certain drawbacks. Therefore, Government’s co-operation making traditional hubs, spreading of knowledge for upliftment of the skill are some of the major strokes to protect over the primitively cultural legacy.

Abstract

One of the important objectives of image processing is to interpret the content of image efficiently and finds the meaningful and significant information from it. Edge detection is one of the most frequently used operations in image analysis. If the edges of images could be recognized accurately, all of the objects can be located efficiently and performance can be measured easily. It reduces the complexity of image processing algorithms by reducing the amount of data to be processed .The quality of image is affected when there is a jump in intensity from one pixel to another. Thus important objective is to detect an edge while preserving the important structural properties of an image. There are several types of algorithm to detect the edges. In this paper, the analysis is done on Canny and Phase Stretch Transform (PST) Algorithms. (PST) Algorithm transforms the image by emulating the propagation of light through a physical medium with specific warped diffractive property. We show that the output phase of the transform reveals transitions in image intensity and can be used for edge detection. To evaluate the effectiveness of the methods illustrated, we have used the PSNR and MSE.

Abstract

With the recent trends of bilateral relations of China with African countries there is a wave of plenty of questions as to whether these relations are of equal benefit. The Chinese presence in Kenya has offered a unique stability in Kenya’s economic and political stability. Nonetheless, the introductions of Chinese firms and products have “raised the bar” for the local industries which struggle to compete in terms of prices and efficiency. The objective of this study is to assess whether the relations between Kenya and China are a win-win situation or not. The study concludes that the China-Kenya relations are beneficial for both; however they yield more profits to China, and more question marks to Kenya. The paper observes that this means that there is room for more development, and hence the study suggests on how Kenya should maximize on these opportunities in order to achieve growth..

Abstract

Different strategies have been deployed to fight corruption such as e-governance, big-data and open-data, block chain technology, anti-corruption policy on conflict of interest rules, asset declaration, and so on. A pertinent question is, can these strategies count much when there are doubts in human inherent character? Addressing human character first would mean that the preceding research findings on anti corruption practices would be driven by cultured and good character oriented administrative personnel which in turn would address corruption risk and poverty. Hence, the research investigated the impacts of human character as a primary factor on corruption free governance and the use of information system for determining, based on human character, whether a candidate for any administrative position is a corruption risk before being elected or appointed. Questionnaires were used for collecting data. After the analysis of the data using SPSS, the paper revealed that using human character as the first check to mitigate corruption risk via information system positively impacted on corruption free governance..

The Arab-Israel Conflict: An Uncertain Future
Author(s): Dr. Afshan

Abstract

This paper examines a major turning points have characterized the Middle East since the end of the Second World War is Arab-Israeli conflict. In 1948, Zionist Jews living in the British mandate of Palestine declared the independent State of Israel. This ushered in strong sentiments of military-centered nationalism and engulfed the entire region in war. Following the four Arab-Israel War, it became clear that the military nationalists had failed to provide answers to the most pressing issues of the region. However, the establishment of the State of Israel created more than one million Palestinian refugees. Their conditions of life are now precarious. In terms of the human cost, it is estimated that the conflict has taken millions of lives. The settlement of millions of Arabs in Israel would immediately eliminate Israel as a Jewish state. This is the real aim of the Arab countries, to achieve by supposedly "peaceful" means what they could not achieve by unceasing violence in whole scale wars and daily terrorism.

Performance Assessment of Distributive Secondary Control of Microgrid
Author(s): Meenu Tiwari, Manish Awasthi
Page(s): 520-529
Abstract

Paper proposes a multi agent based distributed cooperative secondary level control of micro grid. Considering DGs in a micro grid as agents which requires only own information and the information of some neighbors. Input–output feedback linearization is used to control tracker synchronization problem and complex communication network used which improve the system reliability. The Secondary control is 0responsible to maintain the voltage and frequency of the micro grid within the acceptable ranges. To achieve a dynamic variation for the output active power ratios among the distributed energy resources, the distributive cooperative secondary control has to adjust the references of frequency for the rated active power and the references of voltage for rated reactive power. The proposed secondary control may lead to unacceptable voltage and frequency in the microgrid and has to adjust the references of the voltage and frequency consequently. A distributed networked Secondary control proposed approach is used in order to avoiding implementation of microgrid central controller and not only able to restore frequency and voltage of the MG but also ensures active and reactive power sharing so that the failure of a single unit will not produce the fail down of the whole system. Distributive cooperative secondary control ensures the stabilization and the synchronization of the inverters frequencies and regulates the frequencies to a rated value. The developed novel solution takes into account the converters parameters as apparent power limit and maximum active power which balance the system and improves reliability. The control parameters and its effectiveness for a desired response speed verified by the simulation of a microgrid test system.

Abstract

In this present study, A trigonometric shear deformation theory is developed for static flexural analysis of thick beams, in which number of variables is same as that in the first-order shear deformation theory. The sinusoidal function is used in displacement field in terms of thickness coordinate to represent the shear deformation effect. The Governing differential equation and boundary condition of the theory are obtained by using principle of virtual work. The fixed beam subjected to sine load is examined using present theory. The numerical results obtained are compared with those of Elementary, Timoshenko, and Higher-order shear deformation theory and with the available solution in the literature.

Abstract

The paper presents a new method of handwriting recognition using a unique and robust combination of Hybrid statistical edge-hinge features and genetic algorithms. On programming and testing the modules a high efficiency has been noted. The handwriting recognition is indeed a tough task which can be easily done with the help of the technique described here. A high efficiency reflects the accuracy of segmentation as well as the recognition using the statistical edge hinge features that has been optimized by genetic algorithms. The concept here has abridged handwriting recognition partially with artificial intelligence after the application of both statistical and genetic algorithms. For all correct matches the Euclidean Distance which was used as the matching comparator was calculated to be 0. The % accuracy and % error values for IAM Writer (Words) Dataset was evaluated to be 92 % and 8% where as for IAM Writer (Lines) Dataset it was evaluated to be 97.5% and 2.5 % respectively which is considerably higher in accuracy and lower in error than the latter one. The overall combined results for the both databases comprise of 220 images out of which 209 were accurate matches and 11 were inaccurate matches thus leading to overall %accuracy of 88.5% for the application and %error of 11.5%.

Abstract

In general a slab with circular opening is analyzed and designed by assuming it to be a slab of square opening of the same size. Also slabs with circular openings are scarce in the research. Therefore an attempt has been made to study and compare the strength of the square slabs with circular and square openings placed at the centre with simply supported and fixed edge conditions at ultimate limit state using yield line method and the results are presented. Square slabs with circular and square openings ranging from 0.025 to 0.9 times the size of the slab are studied. All the results in this study are plotted in nomographs form and can be used as guidelines for the analysis and design of slabs with circular openings and particularly in determining the ultimate load carrying capacity of the slabs.

Abstract

All sectors in India are undergoing a change from unorganised to an organised structure and so is also seen in healthcare.Notwithstanding the sector’s rapid growth and potential, in many respects, India’s healthcare falls well below international benchmarks for physical infrastructure and manpower and even falls below the standards existing in comparable developing countries. Thus, India’s healthcare sector needs to scale up considerably in terms of the availability and quality of its physical infrastructure as well as human resources so as to meet the growing demand and to compare favourably with international standards. Also, despite the giant steps taken by the Indian healthcare industry, there is a need for improvement in customer service.A comprehensive review of literature has been carried in the present work that discusses the quality of healthcare related to Indian studies and assesses the definition of service quality and development of SERVQUAL.

Abstract

Biosol (organic manure) was mixed with ricehull/riversand medium of varying levels viz 0:8, 1:8, 1:4, 3:8, 1:2 (v/v of biosol/manure) to produce five media. The five media were combined with biol (liquid manure)at three levels viz no watering, watering every four days and watering every two days to grow pot marigold to flowering stage. The plants were grown one plant per pot in 1:4 L pot and replicated five times. A soft pinch was given to the plants before transplanting and allowed to stabilize for a week before watering with biol. After five weeks of transplanting, the following measurement were taken: plant height, dry weight of the stem, number of flower buds, root dry weight, flower number per pot, flower dry weight, number of branches and stem girth. The result showed that plants with the highest level of biosol produced the highest number of branches, highest plant height, highest stem girth, while plants without biosol produced the least plant height, least stem girth. Plants watered with the highest quantity of biol was detrimental to flower production and watering with biol every four days and biosol at highest level produced the best quality plants.

Geochemical Analysis of Similarities in the Crude Oil Samples of the Coastal Swamp Depobelt of Niger Delta
Author(s): Ezidiegwu P.C, Abrakasa S., Ozumba B.M, Ikiesikiemama S.S
Page(s): 629-635
Abstract

Geochemical analyses of six crude oil samples from six oil fields in the Coastal Swamp Depobelt of the Niger Delta Basin Nigeria, was performed to determine the similarities in the crude oil composition distribution intra-depobelt-wise by comparing GC fingerprints of the oils in the context of their organic matter source, thermal maturity, waxiness and environment of deposition. The samples arecoded KZ15, KZ18, KZ22, KZ24, KZ27 and KZ28.
Generic hydrocarbon ratios (such as Pr/Ph, Pr/nC17, Ph/nC18, Carbon Potential Index (CPI), Terrigenous/ Aquatic ratio (TAR) were used to infer the geochemical characteristics of these samples. Significantly, the ratios of n-alkanes and aliphatic isoprenoids revealed that Pr/nC17 ranged from 0.52 to 2.07 while Ph/nC18 ranged from 0.32 to 1.62 meaning that the oils were derived from organic matter of terrestrial origin and various degrees of marine inputs. Also, Pristane/Phytane ratios ranged from 2.23 to 3.17, suggesting that the organic matter was deposited in generally oxic (deltaic and shallow marine) environments. Several cross plots (such as waxiness versus (vs) Pr/Ph, CPI vs Pr/Ph and TAR vs Pr/Ph) were made. A plot of CPI and Pr/Ph revealed mixed organic matter input corroborating the results from some of the ratios especially n-alkanes/isoprenoid ratios. High TAR was observed and a crossplot of TAR against Pr/Ph showed more terrigenous input.
A star plot revealed that oils of the Coastal Swamp Depobelt of the Niger Delta have similar organic geochemical characteristics, thus are related, a slight deviation from this was attributed to degradation. Three distinct classes of Gas chromatogram fingerprints exist at various locations in the Coastal swamp depobelt and this observation is a quick and useful clue in spilled oil to suspected source correlation during spill investigation where a chromatogram profile of sample under investigation can be easily correlated to its source within this depobelt.

Abstract

The genetic relationship of oils from three fields in the Greater Ughelli depobelt of the Niger Delta Basin Nigeria was evaluated . This involved the geochemical analyses for generic hydrocarbon ratios derived from the GC fingerprint profile. Ratios such as Pr/Ph (Pristane/Phytane), Pr/nC17, Ph/nC18 and Carbon Preferential Index (CPI) of the crude oils were determined in respect of their organic matter source, thermal maturity and environment of deposition. The samples were coded KZ1, KZ2 and KZ4. Pr/Ph ratio, Pr/nC17 versus Ph/nC18 and CPI versus Pr/Ph plots revealed that samples KZ1 and KZ2 were derived from organic matter of dominant terrestrial origin while KZ4 is of significant marine contribution. The CPI of all the three samples were approximately 1.0 implying that all the samples are thermally mature. Gas chromatogram fingerprint of the three samples showed that samples KZ2 and KZ4 had undergone a significant degree of biodegradation when compared to KZ2 The GC envelope (profile) KZ2 and KZ4 indicates a possible petroleum recharge of the reservoir or invasion of bacteria through the metreoric waters.

Abstract

– Water is the basic need for all the living organisms to survive. Portable water is essential for good health of human beings. It is important to supply portable water to every individual and every community; hence it is very essential to store water. Water is generally stored in tanks and later the stored water is supplied to every community through pipelines. In this project, we have planned and designed an circular reinforced cement concrete tank. A circular water tank is manually designed. It is further analyzed using the premiere analysis software STAADPRO. The design and detailed drawings are presented in this project work.Limit state design method for water retaining structure was not adopted so far as liquid retaining structure should be crack free. However, This edition of Indian standard adopts limit state method mainly considering two aspects. Firstly it limits the stresses in steel so that concrete is not over stressed and in second aspect it limits the cracking width. Structure has been designed using the LSM , as the LSM gives less area of reinforcement of steel and hence the check for crack width has been done. Further to make the structure most economical STAAD.Pro is used. For quick cost prediction of tanks, this study therefore examines the cost effectiveness in terms of amount of materials. At the end of the project it concludes that total amount of concrete and steel used for construction of circular tank. .

Abstract

Objective: The principal objectives of the study was designed to analyze the impacts of urban expansion on the incomes of urban fringe farmers in Feresbet town and it also extends in identify the main urban expansion drivers, quantify the rate of expansion and evaluate the compensation procedures Methods: To achieve the objective, house hold survey of 223 expropriated farmers was conducted. Supplementary data was also gathered through interviewing of selected officials, observation and by consulting secondary data sources. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS.Result: Therefore, the finding of the study revealed that, population growth, lack of affordable housing, land speculation and topography of the town are the causes Feresbet town expansion from 354 hectare to 774 hectare from 2009 to 2016. In addition to this the results also indicates that; the municipality didn’t implement the legal frame works to determined compensation. As a result of urban expansion and expropriation displaced house hold heads shifted their occupation from agriculture to daily labor and the amount of income reduced. Again the result of the study revealed that; municipality and town administration didn’t support the displaced households. Therefore, the recommendations of this study are; the municipality and woreda administration should be minimized rural to urban migration by create job opportunity in the rural areas. In addition to this the municipality should be used legal frameworks appropriately to determine compensation and setting survival strategies (created employment, organized in small business enterprise, provide loan and training) for displaced households.

Abstract

This research is aimed at developing adaptation to climate change induced flooding and groundwater contamination so as to curbenvironmental and health hazards associated to the vulnerability of Abia state in relation to flooding and groundwater contamination. The research implored scientific method of collecting groundwater samples that were analyzed in government certified laboratories using membrane filtration technique, while the results were displayed on tables and graphs in comparison with world health organization standard to prove that water samples were actually contaminated. Climatic data on rainfall and temperature were collected from national root crop research institute umudikeUmuahia and were analyzed using excel spread sheet showing corrections between temperature and time.Mean while temperature analysis shows that R2= 0.325 while average rainfall frequency showed R2 = 0,018. Flood risk map was cartographically designed using ArcGIS 10.2 to show the parts of the state that are more vulnerable to flooding and the contaminants were overlaid on flood risk map to show how flooding influenced the rate of groundwater contamination. Measures of adaptation to climate change induced flooding and groundwater contamination were recommended to drastically reduce the possible future damages that this climate change induced flooding can cause if not sustainably handled in a proactive way.

Application Of Geoinformatics and Drastic Model in Developing Groundwater Vulnerabilty Index Model For Abia State Nigeria
Author(s): Enyinna Gregory.C, Nkemdirim Victor.U
Page(s): 660-665
Abstract

Application of geo-informatics and drastic model in developing groundwater vulnerability index model for Abia state Nigeria was researched on due to the rising conditions of groundwater contamination that have triggered water related diseases in the area. This was as a result of land use activities taking place in within water wells and around Aquifers of shallow water table. Arc GIS 10.2 was used to develop aquifer vulnerability index via transformation of hydrogeological data into 2D map while the weighting and data processing were done with the aid of DRASTIC model. The results show that Aba south (Ukwa west, Ukwa East, Ugwunagbo, Obinngwa and Osisioma) have extremely high vulnerability which is attributed to the shallow water table and the coastal sand nature of the aquifer. Furthermore, those aquifers resident in Abia central senatorial district (Isiala Ngwa south, Isiala Ngwa north, Ikwuano and Umuahia south LGAs)have high vulnerability, while Umuahia north LGA has moderate and high vulnerabilty. The aquifers resident in Abia north senatorial district (Umunnochi, Isiukwuato, Ohafia and Bende) LGAs have moderate and low vulnerability while Arochukwu LGA shears low, vulnerability. This model has shown that Abia south senatorial district is bound to have more groundwater contamination because of how extremely high venerable the groundwater aquifer is than Abia Abia central and Abia north senatorial district which moderate and low Aquifer vulnerability to pollution It is expected that this model will help the actors in the groundwater management sector to know the areas where groundwater table are under more risk of pollution than the other and for easier planning of sustainable groundwater source protection zone and bore hole development projects. The government and other actors in the water sector are therefore advised to acquire lands within areas of borehole development projects for public water supply systems to prevent land use activities that could cause pollution to groundwater sources so as to conserve groundwater in a sustainable form..

Abstract

Amit Kumar and Manjot Kaur proposed a new algorithm to find the fuzzy maximal flow between source and sink by representing the flow as normal trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. There are several papers in the literature in which generalized fuzzy numbers are used for solving real life problems. But in this paper we introduced new algorithm to find the intuitionistic fuzzy maximal flow between source and sink by representing the flow as normal intuitionistic trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. To illustrate the new algorithm a numerical example is solved. If there is no vagueness about the flow between source and sink then the proposed algorithm gives the same result as in crisp maximal flow problems.

Extraction of Alumina from Local Clays Using Hydrochloric Acid
Author(s): Eze,J.U., Anyakwo,C.S., Osoka,E.C., Nnodum,A.N., Onuoha,C., Anusi,M.O
Page(s): 642-652
Abstract

The present work investigates the extraction of alumina from different local clay samples; Ihiala clay (sample A), Nsu clay (sample B), and Umuhu clay (sample C), which contain 27.83%, 29.93%, and 28.31% of Al2O3 respectively and are extremely abundant in the Eastern part of Nigeria. The clay samples were crushed, ground and sieved using 100 mesh standard tyler screens and were further calcined at a temperature of 7000C, held for 1hr and then leached with 5ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid at different leaching temperatures (250C,500C,750C, 1000C) and time (10,30,60,80,100 and 120mins). A relatively large increase in percentage extraction of Al2O3 was also observed with increasing leaching temperature in the range of 250C to 1000C. The effects of the leaching time and temperatures were investigated using response surface methodology. A pure-quadratic model fit well to experimental data for the three clay samples. The surface plot revealed a linear relationship with temperature, which had more effect of percentage alumina extracted, and a quadratic relationship with time. An estimated optimum extraction condition for the three clay samples would be a leaching time of 76minutes and temperature of 100OC. The optimization also indicated that increasing temperature will increase percentage of alumina extracted. Leaching these local clay samples under these conditions resulted in about 81%, 79% and 79% alumina extraction for samples A, B and C respectively. The highest percent concentration was achieved with the Ihiala clay (sample A). The research therefore shows that Eastern Nigerian local clays are very suitable raw materials for the production of aluminium and other alumina based products. It is hoped that this work will help to encourage the use of our local clays as raw materials in the aluminium industries in the nearest future.

Simulation and Analysis of Distributed Power Flow Controller in High Voltage Transmission System
Author(s): Han Su Yin, Shwe Zan Aung
Page(s): 653-659
Abstract

In power transmission systems, the power flow must be controlled quickly and reliably. As the load changes, the voltage variation in transmission lines can damage the consumer’s equipment distributed side. For reducing these problems, the power flow controller is used in transmission lines. Thus, this paper presents a power flow controlling device called Distributed Power Flow Controller (DPFC). This device offers the same control capability as the unified power-flow controller (UPFC) but with much lower cost and higher reliability. The DPFC eliminates the common DC link within the UPFC. It employs two converters i.e. series and shunt converter, and each converter needs a controlling circuit and an additional central controlling circuit which provides reference voltage to series and shunt controlling circuit. The active power that is exchanged through the common DC link in the UPFC is now transferred through the transmission line at the 3rd harmonic frequency. The interaction between the DPFC, the network and the machines are analyzed in this paper. The DPFC is modeled by using dq-frame. To simulate the dynamic performance, three phase symmetrical fault is considered near the load and, the modeling and analysis of power flow with DPFC in two areas with two buses interconnected system with star-delta transformers at each end is done by using MATLAB/ Simulink.

Modeling and Simulation of Overcurrent and Earth Fault Relay for Extra High Voltage Transmission Line
Author(s): Han Su Yin, Shwe Zan Aung
Page(s): 675-681
Abstract

The Electrical Power System consists of many vital components. Among them, the Transmission lines are one of the most important parts of the system. Faults occur in transmission lines have high impact on the electrical power system. The major fault in transmission line is single line to ground (L-G) fault, but, various types of faults also occur in transmission line, such as unsymmetrical faults which includes single line to ground (L-G) fault, double line to ground (L-L-G) fault and line to line (L-L) fault and symmetrical faults which are three phase fault. So, the protection relays are needed to protect transmission lines from various types of faults. Overcurrent and earth fault relay is normally used to protect transmission lines, distribution lines, transformers and bus coupler etc. Moreover, these relays can be used as main or backup protection. The modeling of protection relays is required to determine the effects of network parameters and configurations on the operation of these relays. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of standard inverse definite minimum time (IDMT) relay using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. The study of test system is Paunglaung – Pyinmana High Voltage transmission line. The proposed model was tested for single line to ground (L-G) fault and three phase fault witha fault resistance (0.001 Ω)at various locations. The simulation results obtained by MATLAB software show the feasibility analysis of High Voltage Transmission Line with Overcurrent and Earth Fault relay.

Author(s): Ei Ei Nwe, Swe Swe Khaing
Page(s): 681-686
Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to know the performance of sixteen-storeyed reinforced concrete seismic design building with the basic wind velocity of 80 mph under five tropical cyclone categories 95,110,130,155 and 170 mph (Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale). In order to study the performance of selected building under different wind velocities, ETABS software is used to analyze the superstructure of the building but substructure analysis is not considered. Only four loading cases - dead load, live load, wind load and earthquake load are considered and total of twenty-six load combinations are used according to (CQHP) recommendation. Required data for analysis and design specifications of structural elements is used in accordance with UBC-97 and ACI 318-02. Equivalent static analysis is used for seismic design. Considering the effect of lateral load, Intermediate Moment Resisting Frame (IMRF) is chosen for seismic zone 2A. Firstly, the superstructure was analyzed with the basic wind velocity of 80 mph and checked by Storey Drift limitations, P-∆ effects, Torsional Irregularity, Overturning Moment and Sliding. Then, the seismic design of proposed building was repeated with five tropical cyclone categories respectively with the same seismic zone, strengths and rigidities. Similarly, they are also checked their performance. Finally, detailed comparisons are made between the analysis results such as deflection, storeydrift, storey moment andstorey shearof the structural members. It is also investigated the performance and potential deformation or damage to predict how and where the deformation could begin.

Abstract

An automated irrigation system was developed to optimize water use for agricultural crops. The system has a distributed wireless network of soil-moisture and temperature sensors placed in the root zone of the plants. In addition, a gateway unit handles sensor information, triggers actuators, and transmits data to a web application. An algorithm was developed with threshold values of temperature and soil moisture that was programmed into a microcontroller-based gateway to control water quantity. The system was powered by photovoltaic panels and had a duplex communication link based on a cellular-Internet interface that allowed for data inspection and irrigation scheduling to be programmed through a web page. The automated system was tested in a sage crop field for 136 days and water savings of up to 90% compared with traditional irrigation practices of the agricultural zone were achieved. Three replicas of the automated system have been used successfully in other places for 18 months. Because of its energy autonomy and low cost, the system has the potential to be useful in water limited geographically isolated areas.

Abstract

A feeding trial was conducted to study the effects of supplemented toasted lima bean (P.lunatus) diets on the growth performance and utilization of Clarias gariepinus fingerlings. TLBM was used to replace soybean meal at 0% (L0), 25% (L25), 50% (L50), 75% (L75) and 100% (L100) producing five diets. Diets were fed to triplicate groups of C. gariepinus daily to satiation. One hundred (100) fingerlings with an initial mean weight of 2.0g were allotted at random to five treatments in triplicate groups with each treatment tank having five fingerlings and were fed with isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets. Results indicated that the mean weight gain was significantly (P<0.05) higher in fish fed diet 2(6.34) and diet 5(5.02) than all other treatments. Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) was significantly higher (p<0.05) in diet 2(1.20), diet 1(1.56), diet 5(1.520 and diet 4(1.64). Specific growth rate (SGR) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) showed no significant difference (P>0.05) as a result of the treatments. The specific growth rate was significantly higher in diet II (4.37) while diet V has the least specific growth rate 2.53. Summary of findings highlights that soybean meal can be replaced up to 25% and 100% of Toasted lima bean meal in the diets of African catfish, C. gariepinus fingerlings without compromising the growth and carcass composition..

Abstract

The objective of the present work is to design and develop a brushless dc motor (BLDC).With the knowledge acquired from various magnetic designs and its power a motor has been built. The primary goal and focus is to be able to make a fully functioning motor. Once it is determined what type of material is to make the stator and other portions of the motor out of a reasonable size and power output is estimated. Using a general radial flux motor concept, the design is refined through calculations while keeping in mind the limitations of machining. This proved to be very difficult given the type of material that should to be machined. After many checks and calculations the final design was approved and parts was ordered. Using this radial flux motor design, all parts are manufactured using various machines; lathes, end mails, band saws, CNC mills, etc. from one single piece of bar stock steel. To power the designs stellaries, Texas Instrument, one phase BLDC motor controller is used. The motor has been modified to accommodate the Hall Effect sensors necessary to operate the controller. As will be shown throughout the research, many difficulties and frustrations are encountered during design and machining of the motor. It will be thoroughly explained through this research that the theories and practices in both magnetic design and electrical circuit theory can be manipulated into a device that changes electrical energy into mechanical energy.
