Abstract :

This paper is designed to reduce harmonic distortion and improve power quality by using passive shunt filter. Harmonic distortion in power system is increased rapidly due to non linear loads. Non linear loads that produce harmonic that draw current in abrupt pulses rather than in a smooth sinusoidal manner. The non linear loads such as SMPS, PLC’s, Electronic device, arcing furnaces etc. Active filter still dominate the harmonic compensation at low/medium voltage rating and passive shunt filter are proclaimed for medium/high voltage rating. In this paper simulated result for three phase system and measured result for single phase system. Demonstrate the reduces harmonic distortion in power system.
