📝 Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with many characteristics, including degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, leading to debilitating motor and non-motor disabilities. Current therapeutic strategies are primarily focused on the symptomatic treatment of these diseases, hampered by delayed clinical diagnosis and the additional hurdle presented by the presence of a protective blood-brain barrier (BBB). Nanobiotechnology is a revolutionary paradigm that has the capacity to check and eliminate existing challenges associated with precision drug delivery, ultra-sensitive biomarker detection and novel neuroprotective strategies design. Some important examples include drug transport systems based on gold nanoparticles, nanosensors based on graphene oxide for pre-symptomatic identification of biomarkers and nanorobotics for site-specific therapeutic delivery. Complementary novel innovations such as quantum dot fluorescence sensors, magnetic nanoparticle-enhanced neuroimaging and cerium oxide nanoparticle-mediated antioxidant therapy collectively demonstrate robust translatability. There are still persistent challenges to overcome, including biocompatibility, the ability to scale up manufacturing, and compliance with regulatory bodies. Nanobiotechnology merger with artificial intelligence, personalized genomics and multiomics frameworks has the potential to revolutionize Parkinson's disease clinical management and improve global clinical outcomes.
