📝 Abstract
Digital payments have become an important part of everyday personal finance. Methods such as Unified yments Interface (UPI), mobile banking, debit cards and digital wallets allow individuals to transfer money and pay for goods and services quickly. These tools can improve convenience, transaction records and access to financial services. At the same time, quick and frictionless payments may make frequent small purchases less noticeable and can complicate spending control when users do not monitor their transactions. This paper examines the possible impact of digital payments on personal finance, focusing on spending behaviour, budgeting, saving habits, convenience, financial awareness and payment security. It adopts a descriptive and analytical secondary-research design based on published research and official material from institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India and the National Payments Corporation of India. The discussion indicates that digital payments are not automatically beneficial or harmful to personal finance; their effects depend on user awareness, transaction monitoring, budgeting practices and responsible use. The paper recommends maintaining a monthly budget, reviewing transaction histories, setting spending limits, using secure authentication and avoiding impulsive purchases. Since this paper does not collect original respondent data, it does not claim to establish causal effects or report new statistical findings. A future student-level survey could test how payment frequency relates to spending and saving behaviour.
