π Abstract
The Quit India Movement of 1942 marked a decisive phase in Indiaβs struggle for independence. Its effects extended beyond Britishadministered provinces into princely states, including Mysore, where national demands intersected with local political, social and economic grievances. This article examines documented forms of participation in Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and selected other centres, drawing on published district gazetteers, official repositories and historical scholarship. Using a historical-analytical method, it considers student mobilisation, industrial strikes, peasant campaigns, picketing, anti-liquor activity, market-toll resistance, arrests and state repression. Quantitative evidence is retained at its original scale: event-level counts are not treated as district totals, and regional aggregates are not redistributed among districts. The evidence points to a multi-centred movement whose local forms varied with social and economic conditions while remaining connected to the national demand for independence. The article also outlines a proposed framework for extracting and coding archival data; this framework is methodological and is not presented as a completed census.
