📝 Abstract
Crime is a complex and persistent social phenomenon that significantly affects not only individual victims but also the broader structure of communities and the level of trust within society. This research paper explores the relationship between crime, community life, and social trust by examining psychological, social, economic, and institutional impacts. The study relies on secondary data sources, including academic literature, government reports, and global research findings. The findings suggest that crime reduces interpersonal trust, weakens community participation, and diminishes confidence in institutions. Fear of crime plays a central role in altering human behavior, often leading to social isolation and reduced civic engagement. At the same time, communities may develop adaptive responses, such as increased participation in local initiatives and neighborhood watch programs. The paper concludes that crime and social trust share a cyclical relationship, where increased crime leads to reduced trust, which in turn can contribute to further criminal activity. Effective policy measures must therefore address both crime reduction and trust-building strategies to ensure sustainable community development.
